Pair of engravings entitled:
-Sophie preparing the aim of the Young Sargines' bow
-The Young Sargines receiving the sword of Philippe Auguste
These two engravings are inspired by a comedy of Jacques- Marie Boutet de Monvet, "Sargines ou l'élève de l'amour, written in 1785.
This story of chivalry is set under Philippe Auguste: Sargines is the son of a knight living in idleness and ignorance, despised for that by his father and his subordinates. His meeting and love for Sophie de Villehardouin, as well as the trust that King Philip Augustus puts in him and that he shows by giving him his sword, will transform him into a hero.
These two engravings present decisive moments in the life of the young future hero
They are marked "Drawn by the Count" and "engraved by Gross", as well as texts from the comedy.
