The piece is made of heavy cast-metal and exhibits a heavy green and brown oxidation patina with traces of gilding meant to mimic the style of ancient archaic Chinese bronzes from the Shang or Zhou dynasties.

The piece is a stylized elephant vessel designed with a removable back blanket panel that acts as a lid. The finial handle is shaped like a fish-dragon or possibly a phoenix. The body features cast relief decorations, including caparison straps, ornamental border blankets, and traditional stylized patterns.
