A beautiful pair of French art deco table lamps made around 1926-1933. The nickel-plated bases in solid brass or bronze hold a shade in clear frosted moulded-pressed glass by Lorrain verrerie de belle étoile. Lorrain was a branch of the Daum glass company in Nancy France. This model shade is never signed and represented in the old Lorrain product catalog.
The height of the lamps is 14,65 inches (37,2 cm) and the shades are 4,92 inches (12,5 cm) wide. They in very good condition. They are re-nickeled. One of the bases shows a little wear where the yellow colour of the bronze shines through (see last picture). The lamps are rewired with cloth covered twisted cord. And now hold an American candelabra base one and a US 2-prong plug each.

On Lorrain:
In 1926 the famous Daum glass manufacturers opened a new plant in the village of Croismare near Luneville. A year later it started a production of pressed glassware. The new company 'Les Verreries d'Art Lorrain" merged with the one Daum already owned in this village "Les verreries de belle étoile". For these plants the Daum company employed the well known designer Pierre d'Avesn , who till that time worked for René Lalique, as its artistic director. d'Avesn stayed in office till the Lorrain branch closed down in 1934. Some prestigious Lorrain models like this lamp were signed P.d'Avesn. After the bankruptcy of Lorrain d'Avesn became the director of the Hanots/Verlys glass manufactory of the Holophane company.
