Etablissement Jean Gauthier
A wonderful pair of French art deco lamps made around 1925-1930. The nickel-plated bronze or solid brass bases hold shades in clear frosted molded pressed glass by EJG (Etablissement Jean Gauthier) signed J.Robert.
The lamps are 13,15 inches (33,4 cm) high and 4,92 inches (12,5 cm) wide. The shades have a diameter of 4,17 inches (10,6 cm). The pair is in very good condition. I replated and patinated the bases and the lamps are rewired with new twisted rayon covered cord, new plugs and switches. I placed American candelabra base sockets and US 2-prong plugs. For European countries I will rewire them with E14 sockets and European plugs.

Jean Gauthier had his first workshop at 12-14 rue Jean Robert in Paris and later expended with factories in the town of Ezanville. In the early days just after the first world war Gauthier made cameo shades that were sometimes signed Gauthier. The plants in Ezanville were opened for the production of art deco glassware in moulded-pressed glass. Many art deco models are unsigned. Some are signed EJG for Etablissements Jean Gauthier. Others are signed J. Robert pseudonym for J. Gauthier based on the street name of the first workshop. In the 30s Gauthier started a line of shades done in opalescent semi-crystal, mainly cups. Some models are unsigned. Others are signed EZAN France, signature for Gauthier based on the city of the second plant.
