Hubert Petitot
A pair of French art deco wall sconces in nickel plated bronze by Petitot. Made around 1935. They hold shades in clear frosted pressed glass. These shades were made by the glass manufactory Muller frères. They are signed Petitot. Which in this case is very important. The French glass factory Vianne made from around 1995 till 2006 unsigned copies of this model in high quantities. These worthless copies have no nice polished highlights and are never signed. Often offered by antique dealers lamps with these Vianne copies have no value at all. The old Muller made ones from the 30s are always signed Petitot and are hardly ever on the market. The nickel plated solid brass or bronze mounts have the usual Petitot foundry marks AP (for Alexandre Petitot). The sconce is represented in the 1934 Petitot product catalog.
The wall lights are 8,5 inches (21,6 cm) high 7,09"(18 cm) deep and 7,48" (19 cm) wide. They are in very good condition. I re-nickeled and patinated the mounts. And they are rewired with American candelabra base sockets.

The bronze worker Alexandre Petitot started his company in 1857. His son Hubert took over around 1917. The Paris based company of Petitot was a wholesale selling its lamps to lighting shops all over France Europe and the States. Together with Hettier & Vincent Petitot became the largest producer of French art deco lighting in the late 20s and early 30s. Petitot produced precious fixtures in high quality bronze with shades by the best French glass manufacturers.
