Exceptional large hand-blown studio glass vase by renowned American artist Kent Forrest Ipsen (1933–2012). Created in 1977 in his Richmond, Virginia studio.
This is a rare, substantial example from Ipsen’s oeuvre, standing 15¼ inches tall with a maximum width of 10 inches. It features a bold, sculptural bulbous form in rich, saturated cobalt blue glass. The midsection is dramatically decorated with horizontal bands of clustered circular bubble and frosted motifs, creating a striking textured, organic pattern that gives the piece wonderful depth and visual interest.
Ipsen was a true pioneer of the American Studio Glass movement. He studied under Harvey Littleton and later founded the glass program at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. Works from this period, especially larger signed examples in strong color, are highly sought after by collectors.
The vase is clearly etched with the artist’s signature and date.
