Original colored Etching … Read more The Weeping Woman is an original modern artwork realized in the first decades of the 19th Century. Original colored Etching on paper. A long inscription is present on the lower margin. On the upper side the Roman number XXV is present. Excellent conditions. Excellent and refined old paper engraving depicting a genre scene.The scene, set in an bedroom, shows us a woman in tears at the center of the composition. In front of her, her husband lies dead on the bed with one of his friends that is looking at him sadly. The woman, in the meanwhile, is holding a second man's hand tightly. The scene has a humorous and satirical flavor. In the lower part we read the following inscription: ''A Donna piangente, non creder niente'' (Trad. ''Don't trust a weeping woman''). The work is part of a series of satirical engravings concerning the uses and customs of that time. See less
