With new upholstery and either a touch up, or a repainting of the frames, this pair of chairs has great potential. Their style harkens back to the Art Nouveau period, which is defined by organic form: sweeping lines, asymmetrical carvings, and botanical flourishes. Expect intricate inlays, and whiplash curves that mirror the textures of vines and blossoms.
They are also versatile in their use -- they would work as side chairs in a living room, den, or bedroom, or as dining chairs at the head of the table.
Art Nouveau experienced a résurgence in the 1960s, so that's my best guess at their age. They are very sturdy, so they are not new, and may be older.
