Printed by Clearwater Studios and retaining its embossed blindstamp, the work features one of Luongo's most recognizable recurring subjects—“The Hawk,” an archetypal figure inspired by the artist's father and, ultimately, by Luongo's vision of his own future self. Throughout his career, Luongo revisited this distinctive character in paintings and limited editions, portraying him with a characteristic combination of reflection, resilience, humor, and wisdom.

Executed in Luongo's unmistakable impressionistic style, By the Corner is alive with saturated passages of cobalt blue, violet, turquoise, ochre, and crimson. Born in Buenos Aires to Italian parents, Luongo trained at the Academy of Fine Arts before pursuing professional soccer, a career cut short by injury. He subsequently devoted himself to art, achieving widespread recognition beginning in the 1970s and becoming known for his expressive figurative works and landscapes. Among his career honors, Luongo was selected as an Official Olympic Artist for the 1988, 1996, and 2002 Olympic Games, an Official Artist of the 1998 FIFA World Cup and 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup, and was named Sports Artist of the Year by the U.S. Sports Museum.
