A striking vintage lidded art pottery vessel dating to the 1970s, featuring exuberant hand-painted decoration with whimsical faces, winding serpents, checkerboard details, and bold stylized red floral motifs.
The piece exhibits richly dimensional raised decoration that creates wonderful texture and movement across the surface. Particularly noteworthy is the vibrant tomato-red coloration, enhanced by intentional black speckling beneath a glossy clear glaze, adding depth and emphasizing its handcrafted character. The layered surface treatment and playful imagery give the vessel a distinctive folk art aesthetic with strong maximalist appeal.
The maker is unknown. It was acquired from a respected Mount Dora collector and is believed to be an artist-decorated piece from the 1970s. The combination of dimensional slip work, vivid color, and whimsical imagery results in a truly unique decorative object.
Measures approximately 6 inches tall, 5 inches wide, and has a 2.25-inch base.
A small chip is present on the underside of the lid and is completely concealed when the lid is in place. The piece displays beautifully, and the imperfection does not detract from its visual impact. No repairs were noted.
An exceptional example of vintage folk art pottery and a wonderful statement piece for collectors of whimsical ceramics, eclectic interiors, and colorful decorative arts.
