This antique Chinese glazed ceramic roof tile features the mythical Heavenly Horse (Tianma) perched atop a semi-cylindrical tile, finished in a rich amber-brown glaze. Identified by its wings, the Heavenly Horse symbolizes bravery, loyalty, good fortune, and the far-reaching power of the emperor.
These decorative guardian figures adorned the ridge lines of imperial palaces, temples, and official buildings, where they formed part of a procession of auspicious mythical beasts believed to protect the structure and proclaim imperial authority.
Dating: Based on its style, glaze, and visible wear, this piece is likely Late Qing Dynasty, circa 1880–1910 (19th century). While later reproductions exist, the glaze, construction, and age-related weathering suggest this example is of genuine antique age.
