Published in 1924 in Alexandre M. Raymond's celebrated folio L'Art Islamique en Orient – IIe Partie, the print documents one of the finest surviving examples of medieval Seljuk architecture in Anatolia. The plate illustrates the richly ornamented portal dating to 1208, a masterpiece of stone carving and Islamic geometric design. The composition centers on the deeply recessed entrance framed by multiple bands of intricate ornament, arabesques, geometric patterns, and monumental muqarnas vaulting. Every surface is covered with exquisitely carved decoration, demonstrating the extraordinary craftsmanship achieved by Seljuk architects and artisans during the medieval Islamic period. Located in the historic city of Sivas, the Gök Medrese remains one of Turkey's most important architectural monuments. Its portal is particularly admired for the complexity of its carved stone decoration and its harmonious balance of geometry, calligraphy, and architectural form. Raymond's publication preserved these details through carefully executed chromolithographic plates, providing both a scholarly record and a highly decorative work of art. The restrained palette of pale turquoise, soft grey, ivory, and muted stone tones gives the print a refined and timeless appearance. The architectural precision combined with the decorative richness makes this an appealing piece for collectors of Islamic art, Ottoman and Seljuk architecture, architectural drawings, and decorative design. This is an original 1924 chromolithograph, not a reproduction. We sell the print unframed. Any framed images are shown for presentation and interior inspiration only. Condition: Good antique condition with age-related toning, occasional light foxing, and minor handling wear consistent with age. Horizontal fold line as issued. The image remains clean and highly decorative. Please study the images carefully. Framing tips: This print works beautifully in a dark walnut, ebonized, or lightly gilded frame with an ivory museum mat. The subtle turquoise and stone-grey tones suit contemporary, Mediterranean, Ottoman-inspired, and traditional interiors alike. Technique: Chromolithograph Maker: Alexandre M.
