The clear vertical lines, the drop-down drawers with viewing windows, and the understated design give the piece a functional, balanced appearance. Historical Context: Shop cupboards, also known as grainiers or drawer cupboards, were made for the organized storage of small goods such as seeds, spices, groceries, screws, or haberdashery. The individual drop-down compartments allowed quick access to the contents, while viewing windows facilitated orientation. Such furniture was found in small shops as well as in workshops and storerooms and reflects the functional furniture design of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Features: Three drawers that open to the front with inset viewing windows. A shallow pull-out compartment under the top panel with a small knob handle. Design: The piece can be attributed to the simple, utilitarian furniture design of around 1900. The strictly stacked drop-down drawers, the sturdy base, and the slightly projecting top create a calm, clearly structured overall effect, while the shell handles subtly accentuate the functional design. Function: Originally, the cabinet served for the organized storage of small commercial or workshop goods. Today, it is equally suitable for storing documents, craft supplies, collectibles, or kitchen provisions and can be used as a distinctive piece of storage furniture. Dimensions: Height: 90 cm, Width: 50 cm, Depth: 38 cm. Material and Condition: Made of oak with glass windows and metal shell handles. The piece is in good, age-appropriate condition with signs of use and patina. There is a longer, age-related crack in the wood on one side panel, which is documented in the photos. The cabinet has been professionally inspected and refinished appropriately. See less
