A Scene from King Oedipus is an original etching realized by Giacomo Manzù in 1968. Racolin Press inc New York, Officina Bosoni Verona. Numbered on the lower left. Ed. 38/105. The state of preservation is very good. Here the artwork is representing one of the scenes of Oedipus king's tragedy, created by confident and strong strokes, it is a master's touch, a depiction of one of the most important scripts of Greek Mythology. Giacomo Manzù (Bergamo, 22 dicembre 1908 – Roma, 17 gennaio 1991), pseudonym of Giacomo Manzoni, one of the greatest sculptors of the twentieth century. Oedipus king"Oedipus Tyrannus" is a tragedy by Sophocles, believed to be his masterpiece and the most paradigmatic example of the mechanisms of the Greek tragedy. The exact date of representation is unknown but it is hypothesized that it can be placed at the center of the tragediographer's artistic activity. Of Sophocles's three Theban plays that have survived and that deal with the story of Oedipus, Oedipus Rex was the second to be written. However, in terms of the chronology of events that the plays describe, it comes first, followed by Oedipus at Colonus and then Antigone. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
