Operating out of the Anchor Works in Lane End, Staffordshire between 1823 and 1842, Carey pieces are significantly scarcer than those of their larger contemporaries. This large serving platter features a magnificent, vibrant Japanese-influenced Imari design (Pattern 316) featuring a dense floral motif.
Design & Palette:
The platter boasts a crisp white ironstone base decorated with a rich cobalt/navy blue underglaze transfer. It is vividly embellished with hand-painted overglaze rust (terracotta) enameling and finished with brilliant, genuine gold gilt highlights that catch the light beautifully.
Markings:
The reverse features the authentic stamped manufacturer's crest: "Improved Ironstone China, Carey's"alongside the hand-painted pattern number "316".
