In 1963, the Danish furniture manufacturer Haslev Møbelsnedkeri introduced a series of tables designed and crafted by ceramicist and visual artist Tue Poulsen. Born in 1939, Poulsen was already making a name for himself with his distinctive style, warm color palette in his ceramics, and craftsmanship. Combined with the quality the manufacturer typically strives for in its furniture, the result of this successful collaboration was an exceptionally beautiful series of tables. It is noteworthy that Poulsen had only just graduated from art school and, in 1963—the year this table was created—he opened his own studio. Made of solid wood and inlaid with a large mosaic full of unique shapes and beautiful colors, the piece is even somewhat reminiscent of a true work of art. The tables found their way throughout Europe and were sold in stores featuring a collection that was very modern for its time, with a predominantly Scandinavian orientation. Those who dared to choose these unique tables starting in 1963 were considered part of the “Modernists” and were ahead of the curve when it came to style and the latest trends. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in tables featuring natural stone or ceramic mosaics. Works by the Dutch artist “Paul Kingma” as well as the Danish designer “Tue Poulsen” are now highly sought after internationally. This piece is in exceptionally good condition and comes from the original owners, who purchased this table new. The tabletop and base can be transported separately, allowing this table to be placed even in smaller homes or apartments.
