An exceptional 19th-century Ottoman Empire terracotta water filter vessel (qulla), hand-crafted in the celebrated Tophane tradition.
This unglazed redware piece features a dense, finely burnished body adorned with deeply incised geometric bands and repeating stylized leaf motifs along the shoulder. The defining feature of this historic vessel is the fully intact, intricately pierced earthenware filter disc built directly into the interior neck—a classic design engineered to strain drinking water while utilizing evaporative cooling.
A superb, well-preserved example of late Ottoman utilitarian craftsmanship, perfect for collectors of Islamic antiquities and historic Eastern European/Middle Eastern pottery.
