An antique French stoneware jug from the 19th century, hand-thrown in the tradition of everyday French farmhouse pottery. Vessels like this were made in regional potteries across France for practical household use: storing confit, cider, water, or oil, and moving liquids from cellar to table.
The rim, spout, and interior are finished in an amber-honey salt glaze, left in contrast against the raw, unglazed stoneware body below. This partial glazing was common and economical among regional potters, since only the surfaces holding liquid needed protection.
The surface shows the wear, glaze loss, and mineral deposits you'd expect from a piece made for daily use rather than display. It carries the marks of a long working life, generations of hands, cellars, and kitchens.
