An antique French terracotta jug from the 19th century, wheel-thrown in red earthenware with an applied loop handle.
The interior is finished in a terracotta-colored glaze, while the exterior is left raw and unglazed, a common and economical approach for utilitarian ware where only the surface holding liquid or food needed protection. The handle was hand applied and pressed into the body, and faint turning marks remain visible on the shoulder from the wheel.
