Large teardrop-shaped vase on a flush base, with a narrow opening and flared rim, colourless glass with milky yellow powder … Read more Large teardrop-shaped vase on a flush base, with a narrow opening and flared rim, colourless glass with milky yellow powder fusing, overglaze in blue and dark green, a lavishly polished, multi-tiered etched decoration of bellflowers (Campanula trachelium) with a small butterfly against a satin-finished background. Cameo signature 'Gallé'on the lower part of the side between the plants, and the remains of a Gallé factory label on the underside. Very rare edition featuring a butterfly.

Hand-made Cameo Glass: Glass overlaid with several layers, with high-cut worked out motifs. Since the middle of the 19th century, the design has also been done by etching. Cameo glass vessels were already being made in antiquity; at the end of the 19th century, Émile Gallé further developed this glass art, created Art Nouveau designs and employed a large factory in Nancy.
