Each holder features an … Read more A beautiful pair of antique Bohemian pressed glass candlesticks from the Art Nouveau period, circa 1890s–1910s. Each holder features an iridescent luster finish that shifts from clear to pink, blue, and green depending on the light — a hallmark of period Bohemian art glass production. The circular bases are decorated with hand-applied gold enamel scrollwork and raised applied blue glass jewel accents.
The hexagonal faceted candle cups display characteristic amethyst solarization, a natural phenomenon in manganese-decolorized glass that develops over decades of light exposure. UV testing confirms strong green manganese fluorescence, consistent with pre-1940s glass production and definitively placing these in the antique category.
The two holders show slight natural variation — a modest weight difference (7.9 oz and 8.4 oz), one with a visible pontil mark, subtle differences in base profile and glass tint — all consistent with hand production, likely by different artisans within the same Bohemian glasshouse. This is how authentic period pairs exist; factory-matched uniformity belongs to a later era.
No maker's mark present. Physical evidence of age and origin is well-documented: manganese UV fluorescence, hand-gathered glass, raised applied enamel, applied glass jewels, and amethyst solarization all confirmed.
Condition: Good antique condition. One holder is missing 3 applied jewel accents from the base, one is missing 2 — entirely typical as century-old adhesives fail over time. No chips, cracks, or damage to the glass or scrollwork. Iridescence fully intact on both holders.
