The method was to paint the backside of the glass in black and then detailing the image by scraping away the black paint, often with a needle. Then the backside of the glass would be covered with gold foil. This is a portrait of a young man surrounded by concentric rings and star filled corners . The frame is the original blocked corner in old finish. Note old minor worming to frame. See less
