Enhance your mantle or curated shelving with this striking pair of mid-century Slovak Majolica ceramic canteens (moon flasks). Handcrafted in the historic pottery hub of Modra, Slovakia, during the 1950s, these flasks represent a beautiful post-war revival of traditional Slavic folk art. These are classic examples of Modra Majolica (tin-glazed earthenware), recognized by its vibrant, folk-art floral patterns and traditional rural scenes painted against a stark white glazed background. Each flask features a flat, circular silhouette elevated by small stabilizing feet and accented with delicate side loops that historically secured carrying straps. The crisp, signature white tin-glaze canvas serves as the backdrop for vibrant, hand-painted botanical motifs. One canteen showcases a bold, wine-red rosette and carnation design, while its counterpart is adorned with deep golden-yellow dahlias and rich purple accents. Framed by geometric dot borders and decorative striped neck rings. Highly collectible examples of mid-century European pottery, these canteens perfectly complement Bohemian, Eclectic, or European Country interiors. The hand-painted "SKM" mark visible on the base stands for Slovenská keramika Modra, a highly renowned pottery collective based in the historic town of Modra, Slovakia. The "S" mark located directly underneath the SKM represents the individual signature of the master painter who decorated the piece.A standard shape #92 flask holds roughly 500 mL to 600 mL (around 17 to 20 fluid ounces) of liquid.
