This striking textile presents a vibrant figural scene centered around a magnificent rooster, rendered with exceptional detail and expressive coloring. Such unique pieces bridge the gap between fine art and traditional antique rugs, offering a narrative depth rarely found in purely geometric designs.

nThe composition is dramatically set against a softly textured field of neutral tones, utilizing a refined palette of ivory and cream that allows the central subject to command attention. The technique employed here, reminiscent of a woven tapestry, uses dense knotting and varied pile heights to achieve a painterly effect, giving the rooster’s plumage remarkable texture and dimension.
n
nUnlike the formalized structure of pieces featuring a central medallion, this design prioritizes naturalistic representation, capturing the dynamic stance of the bird and the delicate details of the accompanying hen and chicks. Its modest dimensions classify it as a highly versatile small scatter size rug, perfect for adding a focal point to a hallway or serving as a distinctive wall hanging.
n
nThe rich, saturated colors—particularly the deep aubergine, black, and gilded gold of the feathers, contrasted with the brilliant red of the comb—demonstrate a sophisticated use of dye and fiber. This textile is not merely a floor covering but a compelling piece of folk art, reflecting the enduring appeal of naturalistic motifs in early 20th-century design. See less
