The flip mechanism, supported by its original cast iron brackets, allowed waiting passengers to face whichever platform their train/tram was departing from.

Built from solid pitch pine, which was the timber of choice for Victorian public furniture precisely because it could take punishment. This one has been taking it since around 1890, and the surface shows it in the best possible way. The patina is deep, the wear is honest, and the whole thing has the kind of presence that only comes with genuine age.

Measuring 9 feet long, this piece has a narrow profile that makes it especially versatile for hallways, entryways, mudrooms, retail spaces, covered porches, or along a long dining table. The simple plank seat, raised back rail, and aged wood surface give it an authentic utilitarian charm that feels both architectural and collected.

The wood shows beautiful wear throughout, with aged color variation, rubbed edges, surface marks, and areas of darker patina that speak to its history and use. Its long, low form makes it a statement piece while still remaining practical thanks to its shallow 11.5” depth.
