This wonderful American Queen Anne tavern table dates to the late 18th century and represents the practical, honest craftsmanship of early New England furniture making. Built for everyday use in homes and taverns alike, these versatile tables served as dining tables, work surfaces, and gathering places for family and community. With its graceful proportions and warm maple patina, this example has the kind of character that only more than two centuries of history can impart, making it equally at home in a period setting or a thoughtfully curated modern interior.
Crafted primarily from solid maple, the table features a generously proportioned oval top supported by a sturdy cutlery drawer-style apron and four elegantly turned and tapered Queen Anne legs terminating in classic pad feet. The rich grain and mellow color of the maple have been beautifully enhanced by an old refinish that allows the natural beauty of the wood to take center stage while preserving the table’s early handcrafted character. The simple construction and refined silhouette are hallmarks of rural New England craftsmanship from the period.
The table is in nice antique condition, consistent with age and normal use. It has been refinished at some point in its long history and presents beautifully, with a warm, inviting surface that is ready for everyday enjoyment. Expected wear, scattered marks, small imperfections, and evidence of its centuries of use are present throughout, all contributing to the authentic character and appeal of this exceptional early American table. 27h x 34w x 25d
