An offset lithograph poster created for Horst Janssen’s 1985 Tokyo exhibition Mad Drawings ’85. The Japanese text “ヤンセン” (Yansen) at the top translates to “Janssen,” a phonetic rendering of the artist’s name used for the exhibition in Japan.

Executed with Janssen’s signature graphic precision and psychological nuance, this work showcases his international reach during the 1980s, when his exhibitions attracted critical attention across Europe and Asia. Signed in the lower right corner. In very good condition with light wear consistent with age.

Artist Biography:
Horst Janssen (1929–1995) was a German draftsman, printmaker, and illustrator regarded as one of the foremost graphic artists of the 20th century. Born in Hamburg, he studied at the Hochschule für bildende Künste under Alfred Mahlau and became known for his prolific output of etchings, lithographs, and drawings. Janssen’s art often blurred the line between reality and fantasy, exploring subjects such as still lifes, landscapes, erotic imagery, and introspective self-portraits. His works are held in major international collections, including the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the British Museum (London), the Albertina (Vienna), the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, and the Horst Janssen Museum (Oldenburg), which is dedicated to his life and work.
