The pot has a beautiful metallic black finish that's been hand engraved with wonderful geometric and fish designs. The glaze has the slightest of a reddish cast to it.

The pot has a very elegant shape and size. Its rounded base is glazed, as is the mouth. The glaze inside stops just below the neck.

Mata Ortiz pottery is a unique form of Mexican ceramic art, primarily known for its hand-coiled technique, intricate designs, and natural pigments. It's a modern interpretation of the Mogollon pottery style found at the ancient Casas Grandes site in Chihuahua, Mexico.
