A handsome 19th-century English molding plane handcrafted from solid beech and retaining its original wooden wedge. This antique woodworking tool bears the marks of generations of craftsmen, including ownership stamps for B. Watson, John Green, and W. Cornwell (partially legible), reflecting its long working life in a traditional joiner's shop.
The shaped sole identifies this as a molding plane used to create decorative architectural profiles in fine woodwork. Its warm honey-brown patina, sculptural form, and evidence of honest use make it equally appealing as a collectible woodworking tool or as a decorative object for a library, study, workshop, or rustic-modern interior.
The original wedge remains in place. The cutting iron is no longer present, and the plane is offered as a historic display piece rather than a working tool.
Whether displayed alone or grouped with other antique woodworking tools, it offers a beautiful example of 19th-century craftsmanship and the enduring appeal of hand-made tools.
From a private collection and owned by the current owner since the 1970s. Additional antique woodworking tools and other carefully curated antiques are available in our Chairish shop. Please click on our seller profile to view the complete collection.
