Antique Framed Oil Painting on Board by J S Burnet features bold strokes combined with a post-impressionist flair to create an early winter scene of a remote chateau exuding Germanic or Dutch architecture and nestled deep in the forest. Very probably a hunting chateau, its lines mimic the styles of more urban residences, indicating the affluence of the owners. The artist has made use of late afternoon lighting and shadowplay to increase the dramatic effect. Survives in its original gold-painted frame with foliate carved bordering.
