This cottonwood doll is also called Comet Katsina and Planet Katsina. Some say he represents a planet; to others he represents a meteor streaking across the sky. Chasing Star usually appears at the Bean Dance (Powamuya) or at a Mixed Dance. His function is no longer known.
Vivid colors and authentic accents dress this figure from top to bottom. Some of the details include a pueblo jacla necklace, decorative sash, knee bells and ketoh cuffs and unbelievable realistic feathers. A full length headdress with a miniature Sunface decorates the back. 14.5" tall (includes base) x 4.75" W and 4.25" deep. This Chasing Star Hopi Kachina is signed and named by the artist. See less
