Tea for two! This striking, playful ceramic set is the "Fantasia" tea service designed by Italian architect and designer Matteo Thun for the German manufacturer Arzberg Porzellan in the 1980s. Features white porcelain decorated with a geometric black checkerboard band titled the "Carre Noir" pattern.
The pieces break away from traditional proportions by combining plump, rounded spherical bodies with exaggerated, oversized circular handles and whimsical small tripod feet. The aesthetic is heavily influenced by the Memphis Group, which Matteo Thun co-founded in 1981 alongside Ettore Sottsass.
This five-piece set includes a teapot, two cups, and two saucers. A maker's stamp is on the bottom of all pieces.
Teapot measures: 9" x 5" x 6" high
Cups measure: 4.25" x 2.75" x 2" high
Saucers measure: 6" dia x 1" high

The underside of the teapot handle includes a small black mark embedded in the glaze, which appears to have been part of the manufacturing process.
