The large-scale chandelier … Read more A commanding and industrial atomic age style orbital chandelier attributed to Jefferson Mack Metalworks, San Francisco, California. The large-scale chandelier from the Jules Verne collection is crafted in the industrial steampunk style having armillary or atomic spheres with multiple interlocking bands of hand-forged blackened gunmetal iron. The bands are arranged at intersecting angles to form an ovoid gyroscopic cage. Two sweeping outer rings extend dramatically outside the sphere, amplifying the sense of planetary or atomic motion. In the core, four exposed filament bulbs are anchored by patinated copper spheres held by iron rings. Several convex spyglass lenses in pivoting iron mounts are positioned to assist scattering the light when lit. The fixture is suspended from a heavy metal chain, measuring almost fifteen feet long approx. The piece is constructed with tactile copper rivets and welded joinery. The iron and copper have been darkened and patinated over time, adding to the industrial workshop quality of the piece.
