The symmetrically arranged door panels, adorned with carved rosettes and ribbons, lend the calmly proportioned front a measured, classically elegant character. Historical Context: Around 1900, storage furniture with stone tops was a common feature in living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms, combining storage space with an easy-care, durable surface. The Louis XVI style characterized such furniture with straight lines, symmetrical arrangement, and neoclassical decoration such as rosettes, ribbons, and fluting. This design language was revived during the Historicism period and produced for middle-class households. The white marble top emphasized both the practical and the prestigious character of the piece. Design: The design adheres to the Louis XVI style with straight, symmetrical lines and fluted corner pilasters. The intricately carved rose baskets with ribbons sit in circular mirrors and form the focal point of the front, while turned feet support the body. Material and Condition: Solid oak with a white marble top. Good, age-appropriate condition, stable and solid, with visible grain and a subtle patina.
