Antique American oil on board painting of resting pigs, c.1900
A fun painting of a sow with her sleeping piglets in a farm yard setting. Signed lower right, Julia S.G. Porter. Mounted in a Birdseye maple frame with hanging wire on rear. Good overall condition with some old restorations to the frame. Image height 8.25” by 13.25” wide.
Julia was born in Glendale, OH in 1867. She studied art in New York, Paris and Canada where she became interested in painting animals and studied animal anatomy at McGill University’s veterinary department. She later moved to Southern California where she passed away in 1952.
