Design Significance & Aesthetic Appeal
This exceptional pair of Shabbat candlesticks elevates historical utility into a striking piece of sculptural interior art. Hailing from the late 19th-century Warsaw silver plating tradition—a period world-renowned for combining master metal craftsmanship with ornate Austro-Hungarian and Russian empire design influences—the candlesticks showcase exquisite structural movement.
Unlike the mass-market regional foundries of the era, the Chaim Grün workshop dedicated itself intensely to localized religious artifacts. The baluster silhouettes are broken by tiers of detailed rose foliate reliefs that trap and bounce ambient candlelight beautifully. This structural texture offers the perfect historic juxtaposition for high-end modern or transitional interiors.

"A marvelous design statement rich in historical provenance and community specialization. While traditionally lit to welcome the Jewish Sabbath, this pair of Ch. Grün 12-inch pillars functions brilliantly as modern table decor. Place them as a singular centerpiece on an open-grain white oak dining table, or elevate a fireplace mantel by styling them alongside minimalist ceramics. Their tall, dramatic stature, original removable bobeches, and highly preserved silver plating bring authentic Old World texture and an irreplaceable historical patina to any space."

Authenticity Assessment
Exemplary, textbook authenticity markers are present on this pair. The side edge of each square base plinth features an identical, crisp, struck manufacturer's mark. The mark consists of a circular cartouche containing the text "CH. GRÜN / GALW. / WARSZAWA" surrounding the abbreviation for Galwanizacja (electroplating method used by 19th-century Polish foundries). Directly adjacent to the maker's stamp is the stamped factory pattern/model number 1129. The consistency of the model number stamps, font style, and precise depth criteria between both individual pillars confirms they left the Warsaw factory floor as an identical, true matching set.

Surface: The silver plating is beautifully preserved overall, showcasing a natural, dry antique patina. Unlike most pieces of this era, there is no heavy bleed-through to the base metal, confirming this set was meticulously cared for over the last century. Structure: There is a very slight, minor structural bend in the stem of one candlestick (visible under close inspection). However, this is almost unnoticeable when the two candlesticks are turned and positioned properly relative to one another. Components: Both matching bobeches are present and completely removable. No solder repairs or structural alterations. less
