“A marvel of the gigantic and the delicate,” Victor Hugo said of Strasbourg Cathedral.
Stunning in its finesse and detail, this vintage phototype offers a contemplative view of Strasbourg Cathedral and the characteristic Alsatian houses surrounding it. The photograph comes from the Julius Manias & Cie. studios in Strasbourg, specialists in photography and publishers of postcards. It bears a bilingual title, in German and French, a discreet reminder of the period of Alsace's annexation (1910-1918). This is a piece that would make a beautiful addition to a home that appreciates history, Alsace, “Môman*” (a term referring to a specific family or family), or simply images from another era.
The phototype is vintage, dating from 1910-20. It is in good condition and shows some slight signs of age on the paper. The phototype is presented in a gold frame, with a white and burgundy mat.
