This irregularly shaped lidded box is a distinctive example of handmade Raku ceramics from the 1980s.
The rough, vibrantly textured surface, the natural shades of gray and black, and the deliberately organic design lend the piece an archaic, almost meditative aura. The closure, made of leather cord, ceramic bead, and latch, underscores the object's connection to nature and its Japanese influence.
The box is stamped with a "W" on the bottom, reflecting the expressive freedom of independent ceramic artists of that era.
