Decorated on a rare Royal Yellow ground and enriched with extensive gilding, the urns feature finely painted galante scenes, floral reserves and intricate Historicist ornament. The celebrated underglaze blue AR pseudomark appears beneath each example, dating them to the final years before the mark was prohibited.

The original brass mounting assemblies remain in place, an unusual survival that illustrates the advanced construction methods used for large exhibition-quality porcelain.

The combination of rarity, scale, decorative impact and association with Helena Wolfsohn makes this pair particularly desirable to collectors of Dresden porcelain.

Condition:

Vase 1: Small losses to the gilding. The wooden washer beneath the metal fixing plate has cracked and is deteriorating with age. Otherwise in very good antique condition with well-preserved decoration and miniature painting.

Vase 2: Wear to the gilding. The urn body moves slightly in relation to the pedestal and requires tightening of the original fixing assembly. Otherwise in very good antique condition with well-preserved decoration and miniature painting.
