He was one of the most illustrious Italian designers of the 20th century, best known for his creations in silver and precious metals. His works, characterized by essential and elegant lines, have become a symbol of modern Italian design, recognized and appreciated internationally.
Sabattini displayed an innate talent for art and craftsmanship from a young age. Raised in a modest background, he began his career as an apprentice in a workshop, where he learned the rudiments of metalworking. However, his creativity and desire to experiment soon pushed him to pursue his own career, opening his first workshop in Milan after the war.
It was in Milan, in the 1950s, that Sabattini met Gio Ponti,
who immediately recognized Sabattini's talent and introduced him to the world of high-end design. Thanks to Ponti's support, Sabattini began collaborating with major Italian and international companies, including Christofle, creating some of his most celebrated works.
His style is distinguished by an obsessive attention to detail and the ability to combine functionality and beauty in each of his creations. Among his most notable works are his cutlery sets and silverware, characterized by pure forms and smooth surfaces, often inspired by geometry and abstraction.
In 1964, Sabattini founded his own workshop in Bregnano, in the province of Como, where he continued to experiment with forms and materials, expanding his production to include sculptures, vases, and design objects. His work was deeply influenced by the modern movement, but always with an eye to traditional Italian craftsmanship. This combination of modernity and tradition made his works unique and timeless.
The Persepoli vases we present were made in different periords: one in the 1960s (the one that has the square attribution mark), while the second one is of the 1980s, as can be seen on the side signature. This piece has an attribution mark,
