The New York import house that founded its own manufactory in Limoges in 1896 spent the next two decades producing fine French porcelain for the American market, and the pieces from that pre-war golden age are among the most collectible Limoges in circulation. This soufflé bowl and its matching underplate are exactly that: Elite Works at its confident best, red-marked, pre-WWI, and in exceptional condition.

Bawo & Dotter did not decorate porcelain. They perfected it.

A straight-sided bowl fitted to its underplate with the satisfying precision of a piece made as a set and kept as one. Both pieces carry the same scalloped gilt border and the same hand-painted rose decoration — clusters of rose blossoms with yellow centers and trailing green foliage scattered around the rim and cascading toward the center with the loose confidence of a painter who has done this ten thousand times and still means it.
