Against a deep magenta-purple ground, the motifs read as slightly lighter or darker depending on how light falls across the pile, which means the cover shifts in appearance between direct and ambient light conditions. Black piping runs along all four edges.

Cut velvet is produced by weaving a pile fabric and then selectively cutting sections of the loop pile to create the pattern. Where the pile is cut, it stands upright and reflects light differently than the flat ground sections, producing the tonal contrast visible across the full face without any dye variation. Because both the raised motifs and the flat ground are the same magenta-purple color, all visual depth in the cover comes from pile height and direction alone. Not printed; the pattern is woven and cut directly into the fabric structure. See less
