Popular in the late 18th and early 19th century, displayed in English dining rooms on sideboards and or on dedicated pedestal cabinets. These vessels were designed to store and elegantly display expensive silver flatware. The lidded top lifts upward along a central tension rod. This piece is lined with green velvet. Decorated with garlands and flower medallions.
The wood surface shows creasing and has several scratches. As well as missing a couple of pieces of wood in the garland (see pictures).
