A striking tall studio pottery ewer with a strong sculptural presence and a very expressive hand-built look. The form is elongated and architectural, with a narrow neck, small loop handle, pedestal base, and a richly textured body centered by a figural relief panel. The decoration and stylized face motif give it a look that feels very much in the Picasso manner, with a mix of studio pottery warmth and bold mid-century design.
The glaze has a beautiful earthy palette with layered green, olive, brown, and blue tones that settle nicely into the carved and raised details. It works well as a decorative statement piece on its own, but could also be used as a tall vase or displayed with other studio ceramics and mid-century objects.
A great piece for collectors of studio pottery, brutalist ceramics, and mid-century decorative arts.
