This vintage California studio pottery vase has a beautiful, understated presence. The form is simple and elegant, with a rounded bottle shape and narrow neck, but what really makes it stand out is the surface. The soft celadon-toned glaze is layered with geometric incised decoration and subtle tonal variation, giving it the handmade studio quality that works so well in a mid-century interior.
There is a nice balance here between clean form and texture. The carved pattern wraps around the body in a way that feels almost architectural, while the darker glaze pooling at the neck adds just enough contrast. It is the kind of piece that does not need much around it to make an impact, whether styled on a shelf, credenza, or as part of a larger pottery grouping.
A great example of vintage California studio stoneware with the warm, organic look that makes these pieces so easy to live with. Signed on the underside, though the signature is difficult to make out.
