….Three is exactly the right number for a guest bathroom that means it.
These three antique linen hand towels came out of a Nantucket estate sale, spring of this year — the kind of house where the linen closet was its own argument for a certain way of living. White. Fine weave. The monogram is a layered, architectural letter-form in the elaborate interlaced style of pre-war linen work — ornate enough to read as decoration, precise enough to mean business. It sits just above a fine hemstitch border, worked with the quiet exactness that marks household linen of this period at its best.
The hand of the cloth is still excellent: cool, smooth, the slight weight of quality cotton that has been laundered into itself over decades.
Approximately 19.5" × 33.5". All three identical. All three excellent.
