This vintage exhibition poster advertises the landmark show Sculpture du XXe siècle: 1900-1945, tradition et ruptures. Held from July 4 to October 4, 1981, the exhibition was hosted by the prestigious Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul, France.
The poster prominently features Unique Forms of Continuity in Space (1913), the masterpiece of Italian artist Umberto Boccioni. As a principal figure of the Futurism movement, Boccioni sought to liberate art from traditional constraints by celebrating industrial modernity, speed, and technology. This aerodynamic bronze figure exemplifies his theories on "plastic dynamism," capturing a human form distorted by velocity as it strides into the future. Rather than defining a static body, the sculpture synthesizes the interaction between the moving figure and its surrounding space.
The venue, Fondation Maeght, is France’s first independent art foundation. Established in 1964 by art dealers Aimé and Marguerite Maeght, it was designed by architect Josep Lluís Sert to harmoniously fuse modern art with nature.
The 1981 exhibition highlighted a pivotal era of artistic disruption, positioning Boccioni's revolutionary Futurist concepts alongside other major modern sculptors of the early 20th century. This piece has an attribution mark,
