The Artwork

The center image highlights Summer (L'Été), an allegorical masterpiece originally created by Czech artist Alphonse Mucha in 1896 as part of his famous The Seasons decorative panel series. The piece depicts a sensual, pensive woman with a crown of vibrant red poppies lounging against grapevines. Her flowing hair and organic form effortlessly blend into nature, showcasing Mucha's signature approach to capturing feminine beauty and structural fluidity.

The Exhibition

Titled "La Femme et le Style Floral en 1900" (Woman and the Floral Style in 1900), the exhibition took place in February 1973 at the Club International House, located at 20 Passage Dauphine in Paris. Presented by la Galerie Documents, the event served as a major showcase for original turn-of-the-century affiches (posters) and lithographies (lithographs). During the 1970s, the art world experienced a massive resurgence of interest in Art Nouveau's curved, biological linework.
