The composition reflects the transition from the late Gothic tradition to the early Renaissance in Spain, retaining the solemn frontal presence, elongated drapery folds, and devotional character associated with the period. The Virgin stands upon a crescent moon while presenting the Christ Child, a traditional iconography widely used in Iberian Marian imagery of the early sixteenth century.
