An exceptional pair of vintage Permacraft French Provincial nightstands professionally refinished in an elevated designer palette featuring satin Onyx Black tops, hand-rubbed Tobacco Reserve wood finishes, hand-applied gold gilding, and ornate French Provincial hardware.
Originally manufactured by Permacraft Furniture of North Carolina, these substantial nightstands showcase the graceful proportions and craftsmanship that made American-made French Provincial furniture so enduringly popular. The elegant cabriole legs, shaped aprons, serpentine case sides, and decorative brass pulls create a timeless silhouette that feels equally at home in traditional, transitional, European-inspired, or collected luxury interiors.
The finish is intentionally artisanal and highly detailed.
The tobacco finish was created through a multi-step hand-applied and hand-rubbed process designed to enhance the natural character of the wood rather than conceal it. Visible grain movement, amber undertones, tonal variation, subtle brushwork, and darker shading around corners, moldings, edges, and recessed areas are all intentional design elements that create depth, warmth, and visual texture.
Unlike factory-applied finishes that strive for complete uniformity, this finish celebrates the organic qualities of wood and the character of a hand-finished piece. The warm amber and tobacco tones visible beneath the finish are part of the layered aesthetic and contribute to the rich, dimensional appearance of the nightstands.
